On Tuesday, Beth and I joined Mila and her parents for Mila’s third session in her “Baby’s First Year” portrait collection. You can see Mila’s earlier portraits at 4 months as well as her newborn session here and here. It looks like life is good at 8 1/2 months old…

Typically when a parent wants to get their child/children photographed, they are thinking about getting one great portrait that they can share with family members. I, however, always ask my clients to think beyond the immediate moment when collaborating on a shoot. Just like all photographs, these images if properly cared for, can last for generations to come. I’m sure when Mila is a young woman, she will want to see cute smiling portraits of herself as a youngster. I’m even more certain that she will treasure any great photographs of her parents interacting with her as she is growing up. To see how what they were like as young parents, to see the smiles and kisses they give. To have a photographs that reminds her how much she is loved…

I LOVE photographing “Baby’s First Year”sessions.

Clara, who you may remember from her new born session is such a sweet little baby, and I’m beyond honored to be documenting her very special first year. Clara’s mom Carolynn is the incredibly talented designer of Two Brunettes. I knew she was going to have some darling clothes for Clara, but when Beth and I saw Clara and her little bunny slippers there may or may not have been some squealing going on. Okay there definitely was, I just don’t know if it was inner or outer squealing. At any rate, check out all the adorableness of Clara at 4 months…

Poor Romi was desperate to get in on the action, and I’m so glad she did…

Clara’s got her own little spa treatment going on here…

Life is definitely good…

By the way, if you are in the market for a stroller, Carolynn loves her Sola! I love this next image of Carolynn and her babies. She is such a cute mama…

How do you like my little homage to the three bears? I’m just hoping Clara can fit into these little baby boots during her next session.

I’m pretty sure these images tell you exactly how I feel about photographing babies… LOVE IT! This is my good friend Carolynn’s new baby girl Clara…

I absolutely adore capturing the preciousness of a brand new little life.

Carolynn and Adam are having me photograph Clara’s first year. I love how little Maromi (bottom right image) is so curious about her new human sister. Little detail images like these will be so great in the final product… an album!

Here is Miss Clara getting a little Daddy time… so sweet!

My heart melts a little every time I look at these photos. Tiny feet…

and itty bitty hands!

Life can be hard at any age…

Luckily in Clara’s case there is usually a pretty quick fix…

I’d say overall Miss Clara is one of the luckiest girls in the world, as clearly every little molecule of her being is loved in its entirety!

Several years ago, I read an interview with rocker girl Gwen Stefani. I don’t think she was pregnant yet, but she was talking about her marriage and plans for children in the near future. She asked “Really, what is more romantic than two people choosing to raise children together?” I know, I know. It can be very tiring, very messy, very unromantic on a day to day basis, but the hopeless romantic in me hopes that Gwen is right.

Some of my dearest wedding clients Piper and Jamie asked me to photograph their one year old daughter Helena. When I look at this photograph, I see romance and all kinds of love…

I think this is one of my all time favorite portraits!
