Alice G Patterson Photography {blog} bio picture

alice {girl vs. grown up}

By now, you have most likely concluded that I am a wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer.  Here is what you probably don't know:

In addition to (or maybe instead of) my photographer persona, most of my neighbors recognize me as the lady being pulled around town by my three dogs (or as I like to call them "the girls").  Ironically, I still think of myself as a girl, but really I'm a grown woman.

In addition to being creative, running my business has lots of grown up responsibilities that I happily greet on a daily basis.  When I have a shoot, I arrive early, with back up equipment, a second photographer, and over fifteen years of experience.  But the minute I start taking pictures, I suddenly personify my absolute favorite part of the job... I become a girl with a camera.

The girl in me remains enthusiastic, creative, warm, and ever enchanted with sharing photographs.  The grown up is experienced, professional, and reliable.  So over the many years of being self-employed, I've learned that the whole girl vs. grown up is not a contest. Rather, it is a rare combination that makes me uniquely talented in photographing life's big events and little moments.

p.s.

My sister wants me to tell you that I'm a graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography located in Santa Barbara, CA.  From there, I went on to build my wedding and portrait business in San Francisco and Los Angeles.  Currently, I'm finding my latest niche in the amazing state of New York!

Thank you for coming by.  I hope to hear from you soon!

celebrating life {and a happy new year}

Until it happened to me, I just didn’t know how quickly and drastically one’s life can change from one second to the next.
Many of you know that I relocated to central New York from California, just about two years ago.  What you may not know is that I spent the majority of 2008, recovering from...

We recently moved from California too, I spent 12 years in LA. Crazy place :) May 2010 bring you joy and prosperity!

Ryan8kelly@hotmail.com - I second the great coat moment. I'm glad your arm is all healed, carrying those big camera's around is hard enough with a healthy arm! Happy New Years!

Nicole Glenn - Yikes! Glad you are doing better! Great coat, a 'no' was definitely in order.

Feuza - Great photo by beth on last one, holding the camera and doing snow balls, not an easy task. Wow, I can not imagine the pain and ice is so brutal, once I was waiting for some parents at my church for we had just finished a rehearsal with the kids and teens and two teens were standing by some ice, goofing off and one fell, she cut her chin so deep, had to go get stitches so I know ice is so brutal, that must of been so hard to loose the feeling of your left hand, and so glad you are doing lots better and even posing in some shots~ happy new decade!

Sara - So now you know how it feels to be a bride at an Orthodox Greek wedding!!!

despereaux rescued

My first few days back in Los Angeles, were spent rescuing a little dog found roaming down San Vicente (a very busy street). We called him Despereaux, after the movie mouse, because of his enormous ears! Sadly, he had no tags and no microchip, so we could not find the dog’s original...

Elaine - Beautifully done. Absolutely gorgeous--both people and animals.

Alice - Sarah just reminded me that we actually had a few names for this cutie. It started with Vincent, because we found him on San Vicente. Then it was Freddie Mac, in case he was a foreclosure doggie. Finally, we ended with Despereaux... adorable, brave, and more adorable!

sarah knowlton - freddie mac!
hope you're happy little guy: sorry ishmael kept trying to eat you while you were visiting.
