I can’t tell you how thrilled I was when Cyd of The Sweetest Occasion fame, asked me to photograph portraits of her dog Nina. Okay, I guess I can tell you… I was super thrilled!

Everyone who knows me, is very aware of my dog obsession. I own three dogs myself. As if that isn’t enough, I literally point out every dog I see to whomever may be keeping company with me. By the way, that is not any kind of exaggeration. Well meeting Nina, was no exception. Not only is Nina such a good girl, this five year old black lab is quite the beauty…

Nina is also very affectionate. She gives her family lots of kisses…

Of course, Nina is the target of much affection herself…

Like most dogs, Nina loves nothing more than to hop in the car and go to someplace fun like a great big park…

But sometimes her regal ways do subside, and she goes bonkers for rolling in the grass or chewing on a favorite toy…

Being a labrador retriever you know Nina loves water! While she didn’t get to go in this time, she seemed happy enough to be sitting near it. I was basically in Photography Heaven at this point. I mean just look at this next series with the lovely Cyd and Nina, and that incredible sunset…

This is definitely a new favorite for me…

I confess by the time we were done with this fun day of shooting, Nina was ready to go home and go to sleep. So a big thank you, to both Cyd and Nina, for all that you gave to make these great portraits… you are awesome! xoxo, Alice

So every once in a while, I get the great honor of photographing those four legged creatures and the humans that love them! In fact, the session I’m posting today was a gift session. A few weeks ago, Brian hired me for this super fun dog/family portrait session as a special gift for Piper’s recent birthday… Happy Birthday again Piper!

This was not my typical pet family portrait session, because after we finished with these four all of Doc and Cooper’s doggy cousins came over too. That would be a total of five labs of all varieties as well as an adorable basset hound.

A few weeks back, Beth and I had a super fun day photographing some family portraits for Piper, Brian, Doc, and Cooper. This day was full of lots of doggy adventure… or should I say this adventure was full of lots of doggies! I’ll reveal more when I post the rest of the images. I love my dogs + I love my house = My Vintage Dog Collection

I like to go to thrift stores, antique shows, flea markets, and even the occasional auction in search of vintage dog pieces that speak to me. There is a lot of it out in the world, and not all of it speaks to me. I have a hard time putting my collection and taste into words, so I thought I’d share some photos with you. What words would you use to describe my collection?

We took some photographs at her studio…

Then we braved that cold New York weather for some of my new favorite portraits to date. As you’ll soon see, I had a hard time picking my favorites, so I went ahead and indulged in a feast of photos. Do you have a favorite?

Have you ever thought about doing a portrait session in the winter? If not, I think you should! While the flowers of spring, grass of summer, and colors of autumn are all beautiful, I have to say I do love me a wintry scene.

steve depino {speaking at tuesday’s cny pug meeting}

No this isn’t a meeting about pugs…although everybody knows I love those little munchkins. PUG stands for Pictage User Group a meeting for professional photographers. Once a month, I host our Central New York PUG, and it’s always fun as well as infomative.

I’m so excited to announce the super-cool-one-and-only Steve DePino will be joining us on Tuesday {12/08/09}. Beth and I heard him speak at the Pictage PartnerCon in New Orleans last month, so we are super excited that he is driving all the way from Connecticut to share his presentation to our peeps!

Steve’s talk is called “My Mother Runs My Business.” During his talk, Steve shares a lot of the motherly advice he received as a kid, and how he incorporates it into some awesome business practices. If you are a professional photographer, and can get yourself to the Syracuse area by 7:30 pm this Tuesday, come on by. Shoot me an email with your RSVP, and we will look forward to meeting you!

With all this talk about PUGs and pugs, I can’t help but share an image of my own little pugaroni…

I can’t tell if Lulu is comfortable, or if she is just trying to be a “big dog” like Franny.

nils {los angeles}

There seems to be a growing number of “Abbys” in my life. While in Los Angeles last week, I ran into the very sweet “Abby” that manages the apartment building I used to live in. I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph her new rescue chihuahua named Nils!

Nils is adorable from every angle! Cute from the front…

Darling from behind…

Which adds up to one good looking little man. I just wonder what is he thinking? Maybe something like “I feel so comfortable with Alice as my photographer.” or “Life is gooooooood!”…..

Nils is not only handsome, but he is F-U-N and very popular too! Here he is waiting for a man date with Elvis. Yes he is so cool his BFF is named Elvis…

All of this running around and working it for the camera builds up an appetite. So Nils took a little rawhide break…

There is so much going on in the world, even Nils has a hard time just taking in some R & R. Looks like he is keeping an eye on Abby, so she won’t get into any trouble…

Nils probably weighs all of 3 lbs. Look how tiny his little head is…

I asked Abby to hold Nils like a baby; and I just love this image. It’s so sweet…

While Nils is very much the little man, sometimes he is a “purse dog.”

At the end of the day, Nils is keeping it real like the Prince of Bel Air…

ottis + monkey {los angeles}

My trip to Los Angeles was fantastic! I got to see some of my favorite people on the planet, eat my favorite foods, and enjoy some warm (sometimes HOT) sunny weather. To top it all off, I had some awesome photo shoots!

The overnight flight home was a little rough. I was pretty out of it Monday and Tuesday with some serious jet lag, but I’m finally back on EST… hooray… and feeling great!

Last week, I shared a quick peek with you from Ottis and Monkey’s photo session. Although Monkey is a girl, these two are a little bit like the Laurel and Hardy of the dog world.

This is Ottis. Such a handsome fella…

Ottis and Monkey have grown up together since they were both tiny puppies. Wrestling is one of their favorite past times…

One of Monkey’s nicknames is Baby Face. In this next shot, however, she pretty much just looks like the mischievous monkey that she is…

Ottis aka “Oats” loves to watch out the window…

Monkey is fairly obsessed with her toy dinosaur. In fact someday, I may have to create a post just on Monkey and her dino…

One thing they both LOVE to do is catch some ZZZZZZZs. Here is Monkey with Besso…

No matter what you are doing, Monkey can find the perfect snuggle spot for herself…

Ottis packs some BIG snore when he is sleeping. He also sticks his tongue out…

These two are highly devoted creatures. Whenever someone leaves the room, Ottis and Monkey do their best to follow. First Monkey…

Then Ottis comes to see if he can help out. Together maybe they can will the person out of the bathroom…

The day of our photo shoot was extremely hot… almost 90º! Here is a pic of Ottis cooling off in the tub. His giant tongue reminds me of a slab of bologna…

These two definitely deserve some treats!
