I recently heard another photographer say “It is not only our job to make beautiful images for our clients, but to also guide them through to the end of the experience… the end being the final destination for the photography.”

When properly done, an album will tell your story. You can pull it off a shelf, and instantly relive those memories all over again. Photos in a box randomly tucked away often get lost or damaged. A slide show on dvd and/or a video will tell your story, but who knows when technology will change, making that dvd/video obsolete? And really, isn’t it just sooooo much better sharing on the couch, rather than having everyone crowd around the computer? Wedding albums often become one’s most treasured heirloom.

I always tell my wedding clients… after the cake is eaten, the flowers wilt, your guests go home, and the dress is packed away, the photos remain ever vigilant in telling your story.

As luck should have it my newest sample album has just arrived, so I took some photos to help illustrate this important message to you. Allow me to introduce you to the Photobook Plus. My sample features a leather spine and back, combined with a photo cover (but it also has three other cover options, and loads of leather colors and textures to choose from). Is it wrong to use the word yummy here? How about gaga? Yes, I’m definitely gaga for this album from Megan and Ernie’s beautiful Santa Barbara wedding…

This is a 12 x 12 inch album, but it also comes in 10×10, with a variety of cover choices. By the way, all of my wedding clients are now eligible for a free album design.

When I showed this album to a new client, she commented on nicely it opens up, so you can actually see the whole spread. I, of course, totally agree with her!

Since I always photograph both in color and black & white, I love finding the perfect balance of these images when creating an album design. Also, playing with size and isolating certain images, really allows me to highlight key moments of the story. Check out this gorgeous panoramic from Megan and Ernie’s ceremony. Loving it…

On a side note, could there be a more beautiful setting for this vintage Rolls Royce? How many times can I say I love this? Apparently, it’s a lot, because I love, love, love every page of this album…

valentines inspiration from {julia child}

Last fall I went to see the film Julie & Julia, which I thoroughly enjoyed. First off, I think Meryl Streep is the most amazing actress ever! I saw her perform in a play at UCLA a few years back. It was a very civilized audience, but I wanted to jump up and down like I was at a rock concert, because that is how I see Ms. Streep… ROCK STAR! Sorry, this really is supposed to be about Julia Child. If you are not familiar with the film, the Julia part of the title is based on the rich (and by rich I mean buttery rich) life of Julia Child, played by the aforementioned rock star actress who will go unnamed so I can stay focused. Apparently Julia and husband Paul loved Valentines Day! So much so, they made homemade Valentines Day cards to mail to all of their friends and family. I find this extremely endearing…

So if you want to have some fun next month, and send out some custom photo Valentines Day cards, you should seriously consider booking a session on Saturday January 16th as part of my new Snapshots! series…. yep the photos are going to have a Valentines Day theme. Here are a couple examples of custom photo cards that I made from my session with the oh so adorable Carrie and Andy!

I’ve added a new “photo booth” service as an a la carte option for my 2010 clients. It’s brand new service, so we thought we would try it out last weekend. My niece invited her friends over to my house for a little pre-dance photo party, before they headed out for a great night at their high school semi formal. Beth (my sister/ studio manager) brought over a box full of super fun props. The photo booth was a big hit with the kids, and some of the parents even joined in the fun. Contact Abby for the Event Key (password). So sit back and enjoy the preview of my new photo booth service available for weddings and events.

introducing my amazing sister {and new studio manager!}

I’ve been in business for myself for about fifteen years… give or take. Throughout all of those years, I’ve been the girl wearing ALL of the hats… photographer (that is my favorite one), marketer, accountant, errand girl, editor, etc. If you have ever been in business for yourself, you know there are A LOT of hats to wear. Well, today is a very special day for me, as I’m making it official and public… I’ve got a studio manager! Can I have a Woot Woot?

Introducing Beth…not just my studio manager, she is also my sister… I love her so much!

Beth is going to be helping me grow my business with networking, special projects, scheduling, marketing, and if I’m lucky she may run an occasional errand or two.

central new york {pug}

I couldn’t be happier with the turn out of our first ever CNY PUG (Pictage User Group) meeting! Seriously, it was a great night, and there are so many people to thank!

First, and most importantly, a BIG OL’ THANKS to the amazing Justin and Mary Marantz for such an in depth and truly beneficial presentation. These two were so generous with our group. I know we all walked away from the meeting as better business owners!

Another big thank you to all of the fantastic photographers that came out from all over the Central New York area! You guys rock, and I want you to all come back to next month’s meeting…

Shai Eyan gave the group a really fun demonstration of his new product called the Spider Holster… love the name!

Super big thanks to Dane Sanders author of Fast Track Photographer, for donating an audio version of his book as last night’s door prize! Congratulations again, Marianne, for being the lucky winner! Last but certainly not least, I need to send some hugs and kisses to my awesome family… Beth, Sally, and of course Mom! They helped me so much the last couple of weeks to get ready for this first meeting! The cupcakes were a big hit! Yummm…

After the meeting a few of us had a late night meal at Syracuse’s own Dinosaur BBQ!…. Mmmm, love them drunkin’ shrimp! You can check out Justin and Mary’s video here.

it’s going to be a good night {tonight}

October 6th is a big day/night for me. I’ve been counting down to it. Why? Well, it’s very exciting…

As a longtime member of the Pictage community, I am so happy to announce that I have started a local Pictage User Group (aka PUG) in Central New York. If you are not familiar with Pictage, it is the awesome online service lab for professional photographers everywhere. Exciting right? Well, it gets even better! Justin and Mary Marantz, wedding and portrait photographers extraordinaire, are driving their Mini Cooper all the way from Connecticut to present their super awesome program: Creating Loyalty Beyond Reason.

This meeting is tonight: Tuesday October 6th at 7:30 pm in Baldwinsville, NY. Please come if you can!
