Meryn and Joel live in Madison, Wisconsin. While I often travel to my clients for their engagement session, Meryn and Joel opted to have their engagement session in Cooperstown, NY where they first met and will be getting married this fall. To say that Beth and I had a good time photographing Meryn and Joel would be a major understatement. If you don’t believe me, just take a look for yourself…

When researching locations, I found the Farmers Museum had an old carousel, and I thought that would be fun. Little did I know that would be just the tip of the photo iceberg. The Farmer’s Museum is a small collection of 18th century buildings with a staff dressed in period garb demonstrating life in those times. After the carousel, we stopped that the blacksmith’s shop and found these awesome hearts made right there on the premises.

I just about fainted with glee when we were introduced to the sheep family. Here is a mama and two of her lambs…

jen + anton {sunrise engagement}

I knew I wanted to get to the beach before the sun was up, for Jen and Anton’s sunrise engagement session. The darkness at 6am, however, was so enveloping, I truly thought to myself, the sun just might not come up today. When we drove down the road it was still dark. When we hiked down the trail to the beach it was still dark. While we found a little spot in the sand that didn’t have condos behind it… yep, still dark. Look how bright the moon is, kind of dark.

Finally after all that anticipation and wondering what was going to unfold, a sweet sunrise began to make it’s way over the horizon and through some soft clouds. I tell you, I felt like a teenager, and any sleepiness that may have been lingering went flying off with the seagulls. A great day was about to begin, and I couldn’t have been happier with my company. Introducing Jen and Anton…

Jen, you are so gorgeous!

I have so many favorite photographs from this session, but there is a quality to this next image that simply feels magical to me…

When I first mentioned the idea of Jen and Anton being in bathing suits for this session, I asked Jen to think about the longevity of these images. I personally am in love with this series right now, but I also know that they will be an amazing piece of personal history. Think about Jen and Anton in thirty years going through old photographs that have documented their love story, and coming across these. Wow!

Jen and Anton are shining examples of my ideal clients. Two people in love, who also love life, as well as the world where it all goes down!

By 7:30 we were done at the beach, and Jen and Anton treated me to a lovely breakfast. Mmmm, loved those grits! We took a little break, cleaned up from the beach and then went for a few more around Juno Beach.

patti + don {a ruby anniversary}

Do you know how many years of marriage is marked with a ruby anniversary?

Rubies sparkle with what looks to be an eternal inner flame, and symbolize a love that is very much alive. Which explains why the 40th wedding anniversary is known as the “Ruby Anniversary.” I think it is quite romantic that Don surprised Patti with a beautiful ruby necklace…

Patti and Don are about the cutest pair I’ve met in a long time; and I was beyond honored when their daughter Jen asked me to photograph this special celebration down in Coconut Grove.

These two met in a movie theater in the 10th grade! Don noticed two things right away… Patti’s beautiful blue eyes and her bag of popcorn. A little bird told me Don ate most of that popcorn, but he still managed to win Patti’s heart.

Patti and Don were so much fun to photograph. I think they could go into business together as a modeling couple…

Favorite alert. I love Patti’s sweet lean into Don, the rustic textures, and the amazing Florida colors in this next photograph…

Real laughs, treasured times, and always having each other to lean on…

For the last location of the day, we ended up at the church where it all began forty years ago…

moe + travis {carlsbad engagement}

While in California a few weeks ago, I was thrilled to get to meet and photograph Moe and Travis. I will be photographing their Central New York wedding this summer, and based on our time to together in CA, I can barely wait for their big day to arrive.

Moe and Travis have a very special relationship to say the least. After a chance meeting when Moe was visiting her cousin, these two went onto have long distance phone friendship for about a year. Travis finally came out for a weekend visit, and just a couple short years later here they are. It’s clear Moe and Travis love to spend time together, and from what I saw most of that time is spent laughing. I believe Moe and Travis’ love is infectious…

Of course, any clients that bring their dogs to a portrait session gets big points with me!

Bright colors, good food, smiles, ~~song~~ karoke, mutual friends, and karoke (yes, I said that twice), are all ingredients in the love cocktail known as Linda and Ji Hwan. While dating, these two found themselves vacationing in the Domincan Republic rocking out to “Don’t Stop Believing” at the resort’s Karoke night. If my eyes and intuition have it right, these two will never stop believing in their own love story. Please enjoy Part I of Linda and Ji Hwan’s perfectly blended California wedding…

michelle + george {san francisco engagement}

Michelle and George are getting married in just a few short weeks here in Central New York. As I’ve said in the past, if it all possible, I love to photograph my clients engagement sessions in their home town. Lucky for me Michelle and George live in San Francisco! We choose to do their engagement portrait down at Crissy Field near The Golden Gate bridge, as that is where they first met.

While getting to know these two, I learned that George often surprises Michelle with flowers. The day of our shoot was no exception.. Look at how gorgeous these peonies are..

I was pretty much laying on the beach for this next shot, with wind blowing in from the Pacific Ocean. Every time I had Michelle and George jump, the wind swiftly delivered me a mouthful of sand. I didn’t really mind too much, as I knew I was going to love this shot!

sarah + sean {new york city engagement}

In just a couple of weeks, Beth and I are going to be photographing Sarah and Sean’s wedding in Syracuse. Like so many couples that get married in this area, Sarah and Sean actually live someplace else… aka The Big Apple!

Give me a stylish couple like Sarah and Sean, drop us in a big city (with camera, of course), and I’m like a kid in a candy store! Of course, nothing says New York City like Grand Central Station, so that was our first stop…

How is this for a classic romantic image…

We then headed up to 42nd street. Don’t imagine these two would have any troubles flagging a taxi…

Once I get going with a fun session like Sarah and Sean’s, I have a hard time stopping. Everywhere I turn, I see another fun shot to take…

We had a lovely walk to the library, and came across these inviting steps…

Sarah has a fantastic sense of adventure, and I just love Sean’s reaction to her bold banister slide in heels…

Every time I look at this next image, I hear the music and words of “New York, New York!” Am I right? It just says it all…
