alli + chris {fairfax engagement}

She says Yes! He says Yes! Look high and low, and you’ll have a hard time finding a couple more positive than Alli and Chris. In fact, they love the movie “Yes Man,” and do their very best to stay open and live life fully!

I had the pleasure of photographing Alli and Chris in Fairfax, Virginia, last fall. First stop during our session was at the Starbucks in their local grocery store. Whenever these cutie pies go shopping, you can often find Alli catching a ride on the cart while sipping their lattes…

The late afternoon light made for some beautiful portraits. This photo is a new favorite, as Alli and Chris look like a little ball of L-O-V-E…

They are like two peas in a pod…

This is one of my all time favorite engagement portraits. I love the ease in their strides and the smile Chris is sharing while Alli is talking…

Serious cute factors going on here…

Apparently I have a lot of favorites from this session. Here is another one…

The sun was going down fast, as was the temperature, but Alli and Chris helped keep each other warm…

We had to include one other enthusiastic soul in this mix. Introducing Trooper the wonder dog. Can you tell he was excited to get outside? Ride in the car? Go for a walk? Oh yeah…

This is one very happy trio…

lynne + christopher {alexandria, virginia engagement session}

These portraits include many of my favorite things, such as traveling, photographing couples that are in love, and the kind of quality time that turns clients into friends! When we began brainstorming about their engagement portrait session, Christopher decided to surprise Lynne with a special reminder of the day they got engaged. So a few weeks ago, I went down to Alexandria, Virginia, to photograph Lynne and Christopher at the George Washington Masonic Memorial. This is where it all began…

Loving these black and whites…

Christopher had organized a private trip to the top of the building, which offers a lovely view of the Washington DC area.

After our fun there, we headed into Old Town Alexandria to one of their favorite pubs. In fact, it’s where Lynne and Christopher went after they were engaged!

It just isn’t a complete photo shoot until I’m laying on the ground (or in this case, on a cobblestone street). Luckily it was a one way street, so I could see any cars that were headed my way!

As I photographed Lynne and Christopher’s reflections in their sunglasses, I joked that this probably wasn’t exactly what they had in mind for their engagement portrait session. Lynne got huge points, when she noted that she loved the uniqueness of it. Yay Lynne… she gets me! I think it’s a really fun detail shot to include in the mix…

bear {a sad farewell}

My dear friends and clients, Jen and John, said a sad and unexpected farewell to their beloved dog Bear, who recently fell ill and has passed on.

In their honor, I’d like to share some of my favorite photos of Bear. This first shot is a classic example of why we love our pet’s so much… look at how he was sitting… you just have to smile at that!

This was one of Bear’s favorite places to play catch. Unfortunately, I think the toy bounced off of his head right after I took this shot…

But then, an awesome catch…

dogs will be dogs {arlington, va}

Nanci never set out to own three dogs; but now, I don’t think she could have it any other way. She is the kind of caring person that people reach out to with their unwanted dogs. Lucky for Harry, Bandit, and Brandy, she is the kind of caring person that reaches back to help. Of course, these pooches give Nanci lots of love with plenty of slobbery kisses to prove it.

I adore photographing pets, as it is always an adventure! While this canine crew may look peaceful, in some of these photographs, I can assure you they barely stood still, for more than a second, at a time. They had me running in circles, as their sensitive ears, noses, and eyes told them there was always something to check out… through the window, in the backyard, or even the already familiar (i.e. each others’ bottoms). Of course, by the end of the photo session, Harry, Bandit, Brandy and I were all quite smitten with each other.

My shutter speed was around 1/60 of a second, and yet look at all of the romance this single photo possesses… love it!

Washington DC was very very good to me. Now that I am back in New York, I’m busy editing my two DC photo sessions. This image from Jen and John’s shoot caught my attention.

Take a look at Jen’s gorgeous eyes peeking through her hair. Aren’t they a cute couple?
